Much debated topic, I like Rotella T myself. Others will say syn, but I just can't see the extra cost. I would assume there is a formula that shows the extended change interval v.s cost? (somewhere).
There has even been a few Polls on the topic.

Make sure you brush up on the fuel filter change and other common tips.

Oil and filters are the simplest and most debated topics.
I use Royal Purple and fleetguard. 10k intervals. The filters are relatively cheap and I'm toying with the idea of changeing filters at 5k.

More important is to just change the oil as recommended, and use a filter off the approved list.

Also, I heard from a reliable source that Ford owns Amsoil.......

i use rotella t syn. they say that mobil and amsoil syns are the 'best'. most guys are going to run regular rotella t. ex. truckers, ctd drivers, etc. etc. Rotella T is a really good oil, ya just hvae to change it more often.

I've been using Phillips 66 and Exxon Dino oil from day one without any ill effects on the truck.

How are you doing on the filters? fuel, air, oil? Good idea to check boost boots, connections, balljoints, fuel pressure. You need to keep your baby running happy.

A fuel pressure guage is an absolute must do this weekend.

Welcome to DTR.
You ask a question that has produced wars in the past! (no way you could know).
Old adage = "Never insult a mans wife...or his choice of engine oil"!

Simple answer...use your Rotella, and change @ 5,000 miles. Go with synthetics and change @ 10,000 miles. Your choice.

What you won't get much arguement on is...Use a Fleetguard Filter!

I would change it...so I knew it had been done.
After that...I would recommend @ 15,000 miles.
