Angry 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel

Hello Everyone
I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel.
I have had my truck for 10 years , I am having a hard time cranking my truck and when I get the truck cranked the trucks smokes really bad. I changed the fuel filter and air filter. Does anybody know of a good mechanic in Flowery Branch Ga. 30542 Area? I have another problem i can be driving down the road in my truck and all of a sudden I have a dead pedal no power then a few seconds i get my power back. Thanks any help would be appreciated

Check fuel psi at inlet of vp or at fuel filter? Psi needs to be at min 8psi for a vp to survive any length of time. All injector lines tight?
Color of smoke?
Check codes?

If your lift pump has low PSI pressure, your vp will suffer, very expensive to replace that one. My lift pump went at at 100.000 miles, no damage to the vp, i was lucky. Your lift pump is located below your fuel filter, not to hard to get to. But mine cost about 800 to fix due to the tow and other related expenses.

Before thinking about that VP being bad, check the fuel pressure from the lift pump first. far cheeper than the vp44 scenario.
