12 valve block work for 24 valve rebuild?
My 53 block finally cracked at 204 k. I'm weighing my options, they all pretty much suck. I did find a running 1996 12 valve 4x4 with a rusted out frame for 500 bucks. Is that block compatible with mine, to swap my other parts onto?

Just wondering why it decided to crack now after 200k miles. From my understanding, Most have this issue around 100k mi. Do you drive it hard, tow heavy or unusual use? Just hoping mine is one of the "normal" 53 blocks and not a thin walled one. Sorry, I know that doesn't answer your ?

Dont take my word for it but I understand that '94 on up 5.9's were all the same. No changes to the short block as you could actually interchange a cam in a 24v engine with one with the P-pump lobe. Yes there was some other differences over the years but again I think the basic short blocks were all the same.
