As long as your diligent with your cleaning, rust prevention and maintenance the truck should last. Plus it helps to have spare body, and mechanical parts hoarded out in the garage/shop/shed as well.

I spent several hours today wire wheeling and cleaning up that Dana 80, before painting it.
I built a nice plastic tent out in the driveway to keep it warm as the paint cured in the 42 degree "heat" of the day. I am heating the tent, made out of reclaimed 6 mil plastic, with a few pans of embers out of the wood stove. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours with my daughter working on the custom u-bolt plates for it.
I might start a special "Dana 80 install in a 1st gen" tread as you guys might like to follow along. Anyone interested?

Thanks T-man! The next time we get to hang out, lunch and the beer is on me. It doesn't even have to be goat chops.
I am busy filling the ember pans in the tent every 30 mins as we "speak". I would guess it is about 85/90F under the plastic. I hate making the shop stink like paint. I am spun out enough on my own.
I am super excited to start my annual Stay-cation, I call "Mopar wrench week".

Thanks T!
I will take some pictures during my wrench week and will start a Dana 80 swap thread later. I will also update on the work done on Poncho, the Vanilla Gorilla and the Gauntlet project in a week or so.
I am off to fire up my little welder and do a little more work on those D-80 axle u-bolt plates.

My daughter and I worked on cleaning up a Dana 80 SRW axle to replace the Dana 60 in my white crew cab that has pinion play and lots of sparkles in the oil.
We chipped away some rust and then hit it with the wire wheel.
My little "Mopar tech" had shoes on today, along with ear plugs, safety glasses and a dust mask.
The Dana 80 is about 2 1/2 inches wider per side than the Dana 60 it is replacing. I might need to look into some fenders flairs to keep the law happy....Or install some 3rd gen rims on with better backspacing on it.
I will hit it with a few licks of paint, maybe some brake pads and some new E-brake cables, before installing it next week.
I will need to modify some U-bolt plates, weld up some shock mounts and notch the 3 inch spring pads to fit the 2 1/2 inch leaf springs on the crew cab.

Oh well, An hour and a half and $25 later.......

Just got back from a 4 day trip with my daughters in Ol' Patches. Brought them down to Seattle WA for a concert they wanted to go to. It was just shy of a 1000km's one way, and then with running around our old town to visit friends and family I racked up a total of 2015km's for the entire trip by the time I got home this evening. Fuel mileage average was 20.26mpg for the entire drive.
No issues with the truck, other then locking my keys in the truck once....been many many years since I did that. First tried to get in through my slider window...nope it's a really good set-up on that one! Eventually I Managed to pop one of the vent window locks and get in, but it was pouring rain the whole time....

that's what I like about the '60s Mopars, you have to use the key to lock the doors.
