I had some time today, and the weather was really sweet (45*F and sunny). Spent the day refabbing my sand bag cages.. Now I think I'm done for the year with the mods to them..

Man, does that weight in the back make a HUGE difference in feel.

I keep 7, 70 pound bags of sand in all winter. Able to plow snow most times in 2wd☺

Aren't you supposed to do that BEFORE you powder coat them?!
I built a wooden rack out of pressure treated 2x6's that fit between the wheel wells of my 2nd gen and held 8 60lb sand tubes. Made the ride nicer. Dunno how much it helped with traction. That was probably more of a tire problem though.

Just fixed my non-working odometer with the 2 gear set i purchased from LaSpeedometerGear.com using the "odometer repair" sticky. Pretty simple but tedious. Small gear in mine was pretty chewed up. I made sure to blow it out with compressed air before reassembly. Spun it a few miles to make sure everything was meshed together. Headed back out to reinstall in the truck and test it out. Thanks to DTR and all it's helpful members

Finished installing my headlight relay kit with a power box. Gonna delete my fusible links with maxis with this box later down the road as well.

Hey Peckens....

Why is your battery turned 90* vs mine ? Never seen the battery oriented that way before... My battery is parallel with the fender.


Today, I repaired my bad grounds in my rear drivers side tail lamp harness, and replaced a failed socket for the backup lamps.

The quick disconnect wire harness below was corroded, and the ground was barely functioning.

Two years ago my battery died in the middle of a snowstorm. The nearest shop didnt have the proper battery for my truck, so now I have two 860cc(?) batteries butted up against each other. They are the same size as your typical battery.

Hello Guys and Gals! I wasn't sure where to post these and I know that a lot of you 1st gen re-builder projects are found in this thread. I saw this rather nice example of a gen. 1 and took a couple of pics. I know nothing about the truck or the owner. I just thought it was a good looking unit!

Last night I decided to lay under the truck and look at everything. Found one bolt for my steering box loose. PITA to try and tighten that back up while plate is attached to the frame. Thankfully it was the one with the best access, out of the all of them.

Rear brakes have been squealing and giving me issues since I got back from my winter haul trip. I tried adjusting up the star wheels, but only one side would hold the adjustment. So I decided to get new adjustment hardware kits for both sides.

I decided today I would get this done...friggin rained like crazy, but oh well...if you live on the 'wet" coast and are afraid to get wet, then you will never get anything done on your vehicle.

Here's the kit and the parts I replaced.



When I pulled the LH side I found the inner seal is shot already. It appears that the inner bearing is starting to go. Think on my winter haul trip things got hot enough to cook the inner seal....thank goodness for the arctic weather we were driving in or I could have toasted that hub!

I will be ordering all new inner and outer bearings, and seals, and probably a spindle nut kit to get rid of the nylock nuts and keepers.

Didn't do squat today cuz I burnt the midnight oil the last 3 days

- pinion seal changed
- hub seals changed
- Lockright installed
- shocks replaced & remounted for better angle

I put those on my D70 over a year ago. They have held tight. I was a little skeptical at first. Still not sure its as positive a lock as the bent washer tang, or the retained keyway business. Why'd they pick different methods front vs. rear.
