Summer Differential and NP 205 Oil weights?

I been searching for a while now.
I'm looking for oil weights for
Dana 60 Front Diff
Dana 70 Rear (not limited slip)
NP 205

I found some info for the rear axle and np 205.
But none for the dana 60.
Thanks Again!

Depends on where you live. But you shouldn't really need to change fluid unless you get major temperature swings through the seasons.

My diff guy recommends Lucas 85W140 for an excellent all year round diff fluid....front or rear. You can also run it in a transfer case too.

Thanks guys,
I'm not changing for the summer.
I just am moving to a place that has no winter, so was wondering what weights people use. Maybe it doesn't matter?

There are people on these boards who've found all kinds of fluids in diffs, transmissions, and transfer cases. If they're lubricated, they generally last. The factory put 80w90 in everything before it left, but you can change it if you wish to a different lubricant weight.

Me ? I personally use 75w-140 in anything that requires gear oil. My auto takes Dextron.

Why ?

It protects over the entire range of weather we get here, or anywhere else, IMO. If you live in a HOT climate, you can use the heavier weight oils such as the straight weights, as the cold will not affect performance, or warm up time as there won't be any.

You should invest into a FSM (factory service manual). Geno's garage has them on CD or in book form. I'm sure Amazon has them too.

See attached.

I second the Lucas products.

No winter? If there is no winter how do you know when it's summer.

This is from my notes:

75-140 severe gear is for dana 60
75-110 severe gear is for dana 70
And 205 transfer case

These are amsoil

That's why we use multi grade oils. Thin enough when it's cold and thick enough when it's hot

I run Kendall 85-140 in the diffs because it can handle all of the weather conditions that I will experience. I also run it because I traded a buddy of mine a case of Yuengling Lager bottles for 4 cases if the gear oil.

The NP205 has the same in it. I haven't driven it enough to know if it will shift harder int the cold. I've heard that, generally, as long as it has lube the 205 is happy. Most people run gear oil but I know a guy that has run ATF in his for years.

I agree with Tim.
I have seen NP-205s with ATF in them.

IIRC ATF was even spec'd out by GM for the NP-205s in their trucks.
But that is just what I have heard as I have never owned one and never will.
