the units for "with intercooler" (pn641301) are spendy! rockauto has it for $242. how does this compare to going to hydroboost? replace the pump or do the hydroboost overhaul?

Why do you need a new one? The ic units are a piece of cake to rebuild. The non-ic ones require a bit more work, but are not that hard either...Mark

If you go hydro boost and ditch the vacuum pump, how do you supply vacuum for HVAC blend doors and cruise control?

Mark, did not know they were re-buildable. don't know much about these vacuum pumps. except for it pisses me off. haha

I suppose that I should have said re-seal rather than rebuild. If any of the hard parts are bad, I guess you may need a new one, but if it just leaking and not generating vacuum, then here is a kit: Vacuum Pump Seal Kit 91-02 Dodge :: Vacuum Pumps :: Scheid Diesel . With an electric vacuum pump like one off a powerstroke, a lot of cars use them.
You can also get a Thomas electric vacuum pump if you want to spend some money.

Hydra-Boost brakes are the closest you can get to the feel and operation of Air Brakes, there is a whole different feel to the system.

The first few times you might smack your head on the windshield till you get used to them.

you can separate the vac pump away from the ps pump without disconnecting hydraulic lines, when reassembling, clock both to mate, before you mount to timing cover, ita a real easy job with universal flexxy sockets.

so ive got my vacuum pump out of my truck and separated into pieces. only to realize that this rebuild kit I bought is incorrect.

it will fit the 2nd and 3rd gen 64-1303 vacuum pump units, but the 1st gens 64-1301 pumps are built differently. they have a slightly different design, therefor the O rings are different sizes.

Which one do you have? you should have the top one. somebody could have swaped in a older unit Ive seen it before.

I think there is actually two different IC style vacuum/PS pump assemblies. Made by different vendors. Look very similar, but have seen others who have had the same issues as you Dozenvalve.

He sells a rebuild kit with improved accesory mount gasket. He has a nice informative youtube video and will chat on the phone as well if you need help.

Has anybody replaced the earlier pumps that have diaphragms with the later vein type vacuum pump? I just ordered up a new Redhead steering box and plan to replace the power steering pump and WANT to swap over to the vein type vacuum pump. However, I would need the oil supply line and support bracket for the vacuum pump. The support bracket is available from Cummins according to Pete in the video above; P/N 3919619, Is the oil supply line possibly available through Cummins or Napa, Autozone??

I just did the swap. Any pump up through 2002 will work. The later two piece pumps are preferred.

I bought a hose and bracket off another member, and ended up just having a new hose made up at my local parker hose and fitting place. It is a flared fitting braided steel line with a 90 on one end. There are 1/8" npt ports on the side of the block and the pump to install your flared fittings. The bracket he gave me did not work. It looks like per this photo, the later trucks have (3) bolt holes for the VE pump bracket, and the non I/C trucks only have (2). The cummins bracket fits on the lowest of the 3 bolts. I am going to bend up a new custom bracket with my swag offroad HD pressbrake kit to get it to fit on the non i/c trucks.




The reason you want the later pumps is because the casting has a radius instead of a near 90 which is a weak point. You don't want this to happen:
