Found a short in the ash tray light tonight. The lamp hasn't worked since I've owned the truck and I've never missed it so now it's MIA. Amazing how it showed up while I was working on something else completely.

How to test your LED out of the truck.
How to check your new LED's before you install the instrument cluster into your truck.
Now you can see how to test your new LED's and see how they are going to look before you install them back into your truck.
I will show you how.
Here is the pin out for the connectors on the rear of the instrument cluster; if you take your time you will find out is real simple to follow.
I would suggest using a 9-volt transistor radio battery as power to save the circuit traces incase you might have connected them incorrectly.
If you find any errors in the connections please let me know so I can make any necessary corrections
As always my work is here for all to use and enjoy

i know this is an old one, but i used the write up this morning for my wife and i to do this. only thing we did in addition was to add a set of white faces to the gauges. otherwise, we used the write up from jim to the letter, and everything worked out perfectly.
got the cluster out
work area and a close up of the speedo gague. really neat looking and super old school.
cluster back together
and reinstalled

You will not want to run the leds in the indicator lights in the gauge cluster unless you do something to block some of the light. The check engine light is ok, but the turn signals and high beams are WAY too bright at night. I have to cover my gauge cluster with something at night just so I can drive safely.

i wanted the full led effect, which is why i changed em all. if your just looking to improve the dash lighting at night, then no, i'd keep the stock bulbs, but i would still pull those nasty covers off.

Another old thread revival.
Just wanted to say thanks for the great info and to offer a warning.
The cluster buckets can become extremely brittle over time.
I'm currently in the middle of this upgrade and had issues with mine.
Actually, it's so brittle that loosening the screws will crack it.
Also wanted to point out that some of those cheap LEDs from eBay work quite well for this.
I got a 20-pack of 5-LED Cool White T10s for about $8.
Two 5-LED Green T10s and one Blue for about $4.50
Besides what's mentioned in the guide, I also used 4 of the Cool Whites in the info center.
And when I figure out which bulb to use for the low fuel light, I'll change it too.
And I used 1 last T10 in the AC cntrol cluster.
Other LEDs I've added to my truck include:
1 44mm 12-LED rigid loop for the map light
1 41mm 16-LED festoon for the dome light
3 1156 50-LED bulbs, 1 under the hood, 2 for cargo lights
And 5 of the Cool White T10s for the clearance lights.
Only need some 1157s, a few more T10s and a couple more 1156s.
Then the H4 conversion, and I'll be done with the lights.

valorsolo your saying the 1156 will replace the 1004 bulb used in the dome light above the seat? been looking for an led for this for awhile. super bright leds says an 1142 is the replacement bulb. anyone know for sure?
