Ironically, the only American company that quoted came in at $1,100 (about the cost to have GV rebuild my unit).
I feel a little guilty going Chinese, but money is a big issue right now. As it is my wife suspects me of coming home with a handful of magic beans!

Got my part back from China, and it is a beauty! Changed the design ever so slightly to avoid issues with GV... It is a tight fit but it works. Now order a new cone clutch and seal kit and hopefully I will have my truck back, now with overdrive!

Why didnt you just go to a pnp and get 1 for $50 that fits right not tight.

Never seen a Gear Vendors unit at a pnp. This is a proprietary part that gv refused to sell me, so I had one made.

There's 2 740 with ODs in a P-N-P down the street from my house.

Why didnt you have GV rebuild it. GV would have put in the right part not a tight part.

Good luck.

Volvo doesn't use the save sprag configuration.
Gear Vendors wants $1,200 for a rebuild. This part cost me $263 to my door in a week from China, and it is made of a very tough Cr4Mo4V Bearing Steel.
My part fits and will work great. I think being a little tight on the splines will stop the backlash that cracks these bearings.
It's a hot rod, not a bought rod! I like to fix it myself!!!

If you read my post, The reason for this whole exercise is to get around replacing my $650-750 rear two piece driveline with my Gear Vendors overdrive and a one piece driveline I had made several years ago.

I know, it was fast and they did a reasonably good job from the AUTOCAD solid model I sent them. The guy I worked with was extremely fluent also.

Well Bob, the ONLY American company that would give me the time of day quoted $1,200 to make the part. I am of limited means and principles don't fill my family's belly.

GV is a option NOT a necessity. You chose to be sell out the american worker. for a non needed part.

I call that treason on the

I bend over backwards to buy

And you just burn the american worker and run strait to china.

In my case the cheapest option was to fix my gv. That saves me from having to buy a $700 two piece driveshaft, plus I get a double overdrive out of the deal. If the failure prone gv part would not have failed in the first place I wouldn't have had to go this route.
