Motor died

Has this happened to anyone, driving on highway at 65 mph and then the motor just shut down (like I had turned the ignition key off). Days before I smelled diesel fuel after shutting motor down. Had it towed back to the house. Please help me out.

That is the most likely cause. After so many miles on these trucks, that connection gets lazy. Mine used to periodically die going down the road, a new tight connection on the FSS solved the problem...Mark

X2 Mark on this.
A loose connection at the FSS, is the most likely culprit for total shut down while running.

The next most likely culprit is the circuit feeding the FSS. That power circuit is only protected by a fusible link, and goes behind the throttle linkage and also down the transmission past the transmission linkage. It goes to other engine control circuits also. Any sloppy handling of the wiring will eventually lead to blowing that fusible link due to insulation abrasion and shorting to ground.

First thing, check for 12V at the FSS, and also check for the integrity of the connection.

Many of us just threw away the tab connector and faston slide on connector, and hooked it up with a ring tongue terminal under the screw.

Thanks everyone for the ideas of where to start looking. I really haven't had time to start working on it, good thing I have a back up truck to drive.

Can you all tell me where the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid is located, and a picture of it. I think I better start working on it to get it back running. Thanks all.

Drivers side of engine on the injector pump. looks like a oil pressure or temp sensor has a wire on it. The only other wire on the injector pump is the ksb which looks more like a wheel cylinder and is lower down on the pump. Sorry pictures are not in my skill set.

Pictures are not in my skill set either, but "googling" or any other search engine, something like "12V Cummins Fuel shut off solenoid" is.
That is what I would do, if I needed to see pictures of one.

I hope you don't end up like me...
Mine died on the road just like you, and in my case...
I tested the FSS and it worked.
Gutted the FSS and still no start.
Checked fuel pressure while cranking and it was 6 psi.
Had lots of flow from the lift pump.

Turns out that the rotor shaft inside the injection pump had sheared.
