For those not sure about doing such a involved upgrade i spoke to Adam at nationautoelectric.com, nationsstarteralternator.com, highamp.com and he said the following for my truck:

"I can provide either a later version 180HP that will output 120A at idle for $289 or a custom billet made 270A with idle output of 200A for $649."

Just an option.

Funny you mentioned it. That thing is over 100 lbs. It weighs half that of my motorhome generator.

Thanks - good article

Thanks for a great article and idea.

I went for a better, worse or sideways idea with a different approach. Time will tell. I did this on my '96 with A/C and auto transmission.

I posted to the 2nd Gen Drivetrain forum so it wouldn't pollute this great thread.

Has anyone been able to find a 3" or 3.25" o.d pulley, the only one I have found was for 77$ http://www.elreg.com/alternator-pull...ne-pulley.html
Am I just blind or is this the only one anyone els can find too??

What are you going to put this on?
Please fill out your signature so we know what you are working on.

Do you have any Auto/Truck Electric shops near you, shops that rebuild alternators have these laying all over the place.

How did you come up with this size?
Too large of a pulley and it will affect low speed charging and the total output.

My pulley is 2 1/2" and I have around 100-amps at an idle.

That is a good idea and I'm not sure I will have to look.

What size would you suggest, it's a 93 12v with a getrag, intercooled with a/c, I only have two batterys right now but I will be building a rack in the bed that will hold 4 more.

Thanks, Chase

My custom Denso alternator puts out an easy 120 amps at idle, 220 under load, and doesn't stress the stat housing out.

Runs cool under load as well, and a 5 minute job including 4ga secondary wiring.

If I wanted a big truck I'd put an N14 with a 13 speed into an old IH rat rod.

ASP sells a 220a upgrade kit for your stock alternator. That's what he runs.

Has anyone installed the LN alternator on a '07 5.9? I'm new to these trucks, but since I don't have a LN alternator sitting around for size comparison I'm not sure if it'd fit as the engine/turbo layout is a little different.
