Looking to change my fuel filter and possibly upgrade. I always over due it by changing filters oil and fuel evey 3k.. after and oil are cheap compared to engine and fuel hard parts... anyway is there a filter that the size of the fleet guard 2122 ( think that's the number..) but down to a 5 micron?

2122 is a water filter. 1232 is the fuel filter. 1251 without the WIF port.

You can get carried away here.
1. As a filter picks up a little debris, it typically gets better at filtering, until it gets plugged of course. That time is 25000 miles or better with reasonable fuel, so 12000 mile filter interval is about right. With fuel pressure monitoring, the best bet is to run it until it starts dropping pressure.

2. A finer filter has more pressure drop. You're going to wipe out the IP a lot quicker with fuel starvation than a little 10 micron contamination.

Believe it or not, the engineers at Cummins know the engine better than you.

Sorry I ment the fs1221.. just was thinking about a better filter because I plan on running a small amount of used filtered atf per tank, its free simply because I work at a Chrysler dealer and its 4 gallons at a time lol.. I'd long probably on mix in 5 gallons on a fill up, I use to run it 100% on my ford idi but then again that was a lot lower fuel pressure

Actually, the ATF is friendlier to the IP than fuel oil. Remove the debris with one of these before you put it in your tank. If you go seamless at 5 micron or less, it should work well.

Filter Bags

There's a fuel forum on this site where you might get more information.

I run a primary water separator on the suction side of the lift pump. This should be a minimum for running any waste oils. I use a closed-bottom filter on the engine now... less leak potential, and no longer need to drain water off it.

Don;t have a pic handy... but looks like a Racor 230r or 245r. I forget the napa/wix filter I'm using but the Fleetguard was FS1234.
Racor 245 fuel assembly

It sits on a homemade bracket hanging off a master cylinder bolt. Tank line goes to inlet. Outlet to lift pump.
