On the Fluid Damper again

Been doing a lot of reading/research on the FD harmonic balancer before I decide to drop $$ on this. For those of you running one, how much of a hassle is it to swap out the belt now with the relocation of the crank sensor? In an emergency, such as a failed A/C compressor clutch(like I had a year ago) how quick would it be to swap in a new belt, all the while removing and resetting the crank sensor? Thnx in advance

Definitely would be more of a PITA. But as long as you keep a match book in the glove box as your feeler gauge...it really is not too bad.

My biggest issue is with my fan blades make contact with dampr at higher RPM's, but only sporadically. I also had to re-use the original clutch fan, since the "new" replacements are about 1/8 inch shorter...read fan is closer to the block. I already have a 1/8-3/8 spacer to move the fan away from the block for clearance.

Just curious why no one has considered the ATI aftermarket brand of dampers that avoids all the sensor and fan blade clearance problems. Price wise only a couple of $$ cheaper than the FD. (What I'm saying is the difference is so minute that to buy the ATI because of price vs the FD is stupid, cause it too is close to $500). I need to really consider this, as I have had emergency belt swaps more than once this past year

I think people stray from the ATI because it is just another rubber unit that won't last forever like the Fluid Dampr claims it will.

My dad took the Fluidampr I had, and I've driven it quite a bit myself before and after (97 p pump motor though). He runs up to 3500 RPM+ sometimes so I guess it is a precaution but I don't notice it running any smoother at all in normal range or at idle. Actually I don't consider it smooth at all compared to my VE pump truck (1 plunger) with Largest Stock damper (from 24V) and Thick Flywheel from 92/93 Truck and Cast Iron 13" Sachs clutch. That is a lot of rotating mass.

So using a larger stock balancer from a P-pumped 12v [which still has the crank position grooves] or a 24V would be an upgrade for the '92 balancer on the motor I am in the process of buttoning up for the Gauntlet project?
