I just use the cheapo everyday green stuff. I buy the full concentration gallons and then a few gallons of distilled water. Why pay for the pre-mix 50/50 when you're getting half the antifreeze for the same price.....
Then just pour them in accordingly to achieve the ratio you're comfortable with. Although that ratio doesn't need to be scientifically measured 50/50.

I like your avatar too.

just like katoom, running the cheap green stuff. i mix it about 2:1, so 66% water. water cools better than antifreeze and anything over about 20% green stuff won't freeze and still provides plenty of lubrication and corrosion resistance.

You should be using a low silicate antifreeze in your Cummins,
I use ShellZone Low Silicate Antifreeze and Arrowhead Distilled Water.
I have also installed a coolant filter.

Like Jim I use the low silicate and distilled water. Can't remember the brand but it's a gold colored jug...

Maybe in FL. Even at 50/50 it can still freeze up here in MN

thanks guys its coming back to me know I remember using the low silicate formula. Jim I uses your tutorial thread and have a coolant filter as well. How long of intervals are you changing? I put my coolant filter and antifreeze in in 2010 so I figured I should change it. The rotella ELC, dexcool, zerex and delo antifreeze is silicate free would that be better than low silicate? It seems like low silcate antifreeze is hard to come by in my neck of the woods.

I think that is what I use, the G-05.

Edwin - low silica has something to do with diesel vibration, air bubbles and abrasion. I've now told you more than I remember or know...

Cavitation problems are prevelent in wet sleeve design engines mainly Power Stroke's where the coolant is in contact with the back of the cylinder sleeves, our engines are parent bore where the liners are pressed into the dry block.

These Cummins engines are "parent bore" design and coolant cavitation on the cylinder walls is not a problem. You can use whatever coolant you want as long as you dont mix types, but the plain ol' green EG will be fine.
