cab swap

I have a 4x4 91 non/ic with a rotted cab and recently picked up a clean 85 2wd cab to swap. from what ive heard you can get away with the the 2wd cab if you put on a 3 inch body lift, is this true? i also want to know anything to replace while the truck is torn down. im planning on doing the swap over the course of a weekend so any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated thank in advance.

The only reason people do the lift is because the 2wd has a small tranny tunnel, no provision for the transfer case. All you need to do is cut out the tranny tunnel from the 4wd cab, then cut out the 2wd tunnel and either weld, or screw/bolt the 4wd unit in place.

if you look through my build thread you can see how I made a removable tunnel for my crewcab.

I recommend cutting the floor, body lifts open up a whole can of worms when it comes to fitting things back together. This is a pretty ambitious project for the course of one weekend, good luck.

thats not an option for this truck right now the floors are completely rotted out. i was going to install new floors but the roof is also rotted at the windshield and the rockers are swiss cheese so i picked up the 2wd cab for cheap hoping it will be cheaper to just run a body lift instead of fixing all the rust and rot. in the near future ill be installing a 4'' lift and 37'' tires so i want the extra clearance from the body lift

Tranny tunnels seldom rot out....so not sure why you can't make a removable one.

Some of the early truck's had the big tunnel from Factory you may not have to run a Lift .
