Alternator wiring

What purpose do the black plastic block the wires from the alternator go into serve ? One of the wires from it is frayed and alternator cuts in and out. Can I just cut out the block and wire direct to the alternator ?
TIA

Yes it serves no other purpose other than to position the wires, I removed mine when I replaced the tiny battery feed using #2 welding cable.
