Air filter issues

anyone besides me find issues purchasing an air filter for your dodge ?

Seems as though the manufacturers have limited the air filters that are listed for our trucks.

On the air filter housing, it reads use only 4713953, which is the correct filter number. The filter that fits my truck has rubber at both ends, so that it seals the filter in the housing.

So, I called my local autozone and asked if they had a filter for the dodge. They said no, but would have it this morning. I went there, and the filter listed on their website is the wrong filter, as it's the type that has a threaded rod running through it, which my truck does not have. In other words, there is a hole on both ends and a wingnut get placed on on the one end of the filter. This won't work in my truck, as it would allow dirt to go into that hole, and bypass the media.

Wix has the same issue as well, and you can see the washer in the photo that goes on the end of the threaded rod in the lower right corner of the pic.

So, what I did was to cross reference the mopar # with Amazon's listings and came up with this. Now Amazon's website says it doesn't fit my truck according to their listings, but if you go to Luberfiner's website it does.

Awful lot of trouble to find a simple air filter.

Interesting, my 92 has the rod and wing nut. IIRC my 89 did too. Have you looked to see what that filter is supposed to fit?

TMan,

My '92 (late production, October '92) came equipped with the '93 Model Year air Filter. Most of the late '92s came with this filter, among other '93 upgrades.

The filter I use is:
AIR FILTER - FLEETGUARD ('93, 5.9L) - AF25023
Item #: AF-25023
GENO'S Listed at $30.95 (you can find them cheaper)

I think you'll find this to be the correct filter. Look at the picture on GENO'S site and see if it doesn't look like the filter you need. You can always call GENO'S too

Bob L nailed it. T Man has the 1993 updated version "hi flo" air filter element setup. The previous type of air filters won't work, as you have found out.

Ah... Makes sense now

And probably, if not already, should be placed in the sticky....

The 93 is correct. I guess I learned something new today..

Genos is cheaper, but with amazon's free shipping, it's less

Woo Hoo !
Thanks a bunch, fellas...

Hey Bob,

Just wanted to thank you for your info. I ordered that filter off slammazon, and it came to me little 8 year old chinese girl defective. The inside of the filter was covered in excess epoxy from when they assembled the filter on the line, and smushed all the glue out of the end cap. 20% or more of the inside of the filter media was blocked from the epoxy. sent it back and ordered 2 Fleetguard filters from Genos. I'm good for 2-3 years now.

Thanks again !

These filters are really sweet. They're a tad longer than the aftermarket ones which means they're tighter in that housing. That, along with their silicone greased opening, makes the fit that much tighter of a seal. There was a bit of dust in there from the other filter on the turbine wheel. Let's see if this prevents that.

Glad you found them to your satisfaction.
Nothing like the "real deal" albeit not inexpensive.
Sometimes, not always, you get what you pay for. Peace of mind.
