1989 w250 build. (pic heavy)

So I picked up this 1989 w250 cummins recently and thought I would do a build thread. Truck has 189,000 on it, it is an auto trans, non-intercooled , bone stock truck!! VE pump has never been touched and all parts are original. There is no rot anywhere on this truck, it has very little surface rust in a couple spots where the paint has chipped, body is completely solid other than a few dings and dents here and there. Frame rails still have factory paint markings.

I haven't fully decided where I am going to go with this truck yet. I would love some ideas from you all! 1989 w250 build. (pic heavy)-photo730.jpg1989 w250 build. So here is what I have done already. 1989 w250 build. (pic heavy)-photo746.jpg

I replaced the steering shaft with a Borgenson. It is much better than the electrical tape that was holding the original together!!

I also found this zip tie holding the throttle cable in place!! I found and ordered a new cable

Wow, that thing had to come from the high desert area.

I haven't seen one that clean for 10 years unless it was a low mile grandpa garaged unit, which yours obviously is not.

Great score!

I was told it was a Montana truck. I bought it from a guy here in Jersey who said he had it shipped from Montana.

Wow that is a nice looking truck!
FWIW - You should slide that collar up against the boot/upper shaft
and tighten the set screw to keep the steering shaft from collapsing.

Fair enough, I agree I have a much better starting point than most.

To me a build can start with a brand new showroom floor model or a rusted out junkyard find. To me a build is what you do with what you have.

Yes thank you! Good Eye! I did slide it up and adjust it before I finished, I was a little excited and took the pic before tightening everything down!

I don't know what my plans are!! I knew exactly what I wanted to do before I bought it and was just looking, but I never thought I would find such a nice one!

I almost feel like I should stick it in the garage and leave it alone!

Maybe I will start with an exhaust, tune up the ve pump and maybe some injectors and see where it goes from there! Make it more fun to drive!

Unfortunately, I agree. If I didn't make money plowing with mine, and I had a storage unit, I'd put mine away in December, and take it back oit in the spring after that caustic crap was washed away by the rains

Nice score
