Which bottle relocation option is preferred?? - Dodge Diesel

I have alot of diesel odor when I run the heater/defrost or when beginning driving after cold start/warm up and it sounds like some of this can be eliminated with the relocation of the blow by bottle. I checked out the maintenance section at Geno's Garage and printed out the 3 options listed there and am going to use one of them. My question for you guys is which method has worked the best for you if you've used these or do you have another option for relocation which will provide a good result. Thanks for any feedback, I want to do this this afternoon or tomorrow so please assist if you can. Thanks, RJ in Montana...

A lot of the guys just add a longer hose and get rid of the bottle. I ran a longer hose but tie straped the bottle by and to the left of frame, I don't want oil spots on driveway. Just make sure you don't kink the hose and that it is going downward so it drains and don't block off or freeze.

Diesel odor wouldn't be coming from the blow-by. Oil vapor or smoke maybe, but not fuel odor. Someone please correct me if I wrong on this one.

[/quote] So what happens if it gets blocked off? My hose was jammed into the bottom of the bottle for days until I noticed an oil smell, now the smell wont go away at stops and idling, did I blow a seal somwhere? Thanks

Sorry to mislead you guys, what I should have said was that I was experiencing what seems to be exhaust or at least engine odors inside the cab when I am warming up the pick up or stopped at lights etc...usually get a good blast when the defrost or heater are turned on. I guess I jumped to the conclusion that the fumes may be comming from the blow by bottle and the fan circulates them throughout the engine compartment where the are pulled in through the heat ducts. Sorry to give bad info and then look for help. Hope this helps you answer my question accurately. Is this even possible or are these just normal characteristics that come with owning a diesel. Hey guys, first off... this site is awesome! I bought my first diesel in febuary. And fell in love! A couple questions from a rookie. First, I have just under 8000 miles on my truck and I noticed an oil spray all over the under side of the hood and on the front of the engine. SO, on the relocation of the oil blow by bottle. Could a guy replace the tube to the bottle with one going straight up and put a small breather/filter on the end. My thinking on this is the the crank case would be able to breathe and this would eliminate the loss of oil altogether. Next I have an 02 HO and have read on here that a set of injectors work better on these engines than a fuel box. Does anyone have experience with this?

This is what I've done to 2 trucks so far to get rid of the smell (fuel?/oil?), and get the bottle drip away from the engine.

This is where the bottle was. I just put an elbow in and ran the hose over in front of the lf tire tucked up in front of the wheel well liner.
