Which 4 door to get.
I have a choice of trucks right now that I can get to do my conversion I was hoping you all that have done them can help me out. Both truck choices comes with 2 cabs. 1 is a 1 ton 4wd short bed but the bed and cab are junk the other is a 1 ton 2wd 8' bed. Both are rollers with a complete drive train but I am going to be giving the drive trains back to the guy I am buying them from. My plan is to take my drivetrain from my 89 W350 and put it into one of them. The 2wd needs the frame repaired but comes with a good frame rail and the front sheet metal is decent. The other on is all there but really the only good part is the frame. If I do the 8' bed truck I can use my bed and other stuff but need to convert it to 4wd and fix the frame ( not a big deal to me) and if I get the 6' bed truck I am going to have to find a bed . My question is what would be better to have a 8' bed 4wd 4dr 1st gen cummins or a 6' bed 4wd 1st gen cummins. I added a pole to help with the decision.
Thanks

I don't know if I have one definate opinion to vote because they both have give and take. The 8 foot bed would be nice, but the truck would be a foot and a half longer than the 6'bed truck leading to a fun time parking and manuvering. On the other hand, if the sheet metal on the shorter truck is junk, is there any point in buying it. Based on what you described, I would go with the longer one if the overall length is not an issue for you. Another plus is that 4x4 cummins longbed crews are even more rare because they are a double conversion. Good luck, Better yet, buy them all.HEHE

I own two '85 short bed crew cabs one a 360 stick and the other converted using a non I/C 91 motor and drivetrain [auto, 3.07 geared]. A long bed crew would be a long rig, if you live in the sticks it might fly but would be tough to park in a metro area. I use my '01 w/ a long bed if I am going to the lumber yard for 16 ft long lumber or delivering fire wood. Buy them both - run the shorty and have the spare crew cab for parts. Rear door parts are a pain to find!
