250,000 on a 2001?
Dang.
Ridden hard and put away wet.
And you just a bit out of warranty as well.

It looks like it was mainly Dodge stuff that went bad though, Cummins stuff still working.

Re:Whens it going to stop?????

;D Yes I drive hard but service it everyweek,I run anywhere from 3500 to 5200 miles per week.I have stayed home the last couple weeks not sure how many more miles it will hold together. wish I could find a solution to the overheating so far no luck some say it could be the radiator has calcium buildup so I guess the next stop will be a raditor shop to find out, doge can't find the problem.I also forgot to tell anybody that tows much to keep a close eye on your receiver, mine tore off with just a boat on it.They were suppose to be the better one's in 2001 but they will break,I replaced it with the class VI which it should have had in the first place,no help from Dodge as far as replacement cost. The front brake rotors seem to be good for only one brake job and they have to be replaced after that> as far as warranty goes not one cent was paid for anything,I found out the 100,000 miles is for anything on the inside and nothing on the outside of the motor. The dealership loves to see my truck come though the door they know I will make someones paycheck that week

Re:Whens it going to stop?????

How much more maintenace than every week and as far as the crank sensor if it don't have one then Dodge sure sells alot of them,it has a code for a cam sensor to and I was told it don't have that either. When I bought this truck I had heard nothing but good about them but most people don't drive except tp work ot tow once a year as to where I drive and tow everyweek and do a lot of miles, some of the other people where I work and have Dodges to and after 100,000 miles or so they star having all kinds of problem from lift pumps to transmission and it is split between autos and sticks. The first week I owned the truck i took it back because of lack of power and the first tow I got 7.1 mpg from here to Florida with a 24 ft travel trailer and on a flat bridge it wouldn't hold o/d and on the way back my buddies 99 dually broke down in Houston and thats where I bought the diablo power puck which helped mpg and power a whole bunch and later had to change the valvebody to handle it.If anyone out there drives much let me know if you have had much problems with your's,any help appreciated.

Re:Whens it going to stop?????

BBD are you 2wd or 4wd? I am interested in the front wheel bearings on the 4wd. Mine is approching 150 and they have never been touched. My book does not have any info on them. I need to repack them and check the bearings soon.

Lonewolf I do not have the miles on mine yet but do haul heavy and the miles are going on now. I really have not had many problems but try to stay ahead of it. I replaced the lift pump at 110,000 just to prevent a problem. I lost the clutch at 126,000. I replaced the thermostat and a rear wheel seal recently. Brakes have been outstanding on mine. Two sets of pads, two sets of shoes on the rear. The disks have not even been turned nor have the drums. It is probably getting close to a new set of pads and the disks do need to be turned or replaced, same for the rear drums at the next change. I had a problem with the batteries boiling over and went to an Ultima, problem cured (hopefully).

I think your signature said that you are running a five speed, no problems? I have not had a problems either but have purchased a six speed for when it comes. I have been really happy with the performance of the Dodge. Mine is stock except for straight pipe and Scotty intake and has plenty of power.

Bill

Re:Whens it going to stop?????

I have around 112k and have towed loads in since day one lift pump went at 93k, rotors replaced 108, clutch 101k, new shocks 4 sets of tires, new 5th gear, 5th gear still having problems pops out, new winshield, lost tailgate in trailer incident, left rear wheel seal leaks a little, aligned it once, factory thermostat broke replaced it,carrier bearing replaced. The loads it hauls run anywhere from 14k to one time of 28k not counting the 6800# trailer mine works its *ss off and I 'm very happy with it. You just must have got one of those monday or friday trucks that aren"t built rite.

Re:Whens it going to stop?????

Lonewolf, Sorry to hear of your troubles. One thing I can suggest from experience is quit taking it to the dealer for service. The number of qualified cummins mechanics working in dealerships must be really limited. I have NEVER found one.

Only problems I have really had with mine besides normal wear has been the times I let Dealer mechanics touch my truck. Every recall job I have had to redo myself and Dodge told me on the phone " They license the dealers for repair but don't guarantee they use qualified people".
They may be more succesful with gas engines but, they just are not trained to deal with these things. You either need to get real good at doing it yourself or find a real truck mechanic who doesn't fix things by random replacement of parts hoping for a cure.

The system of working the mechanic on commission is great for the dealer but hurts the consumer terribly. They have no incentive to do whatever is necessary to fix the problem, they just want to get it in and out quickly so they don't tie up their time on a lengthy procedure. Bad system, but standard practise everywhere.

Even when you find a good honest dealership that really wants to help, they seem crippled by help that doesn't care, hurting the reputation of the dealer in the process.

Not my intent to dealer bash, I know it appears that way, It is the system itself that causes the problem for the most part. The qualified people I have seen at dealerships move rapidly past the neanderthals and end up writing service tickets, or doing service oriented managerial duties rather than putting that experience on the line.

Good luck and just an honest Personal opinion.

Re:Whens it going to stop?????

Sitting at 109000 on mine now. Replaced lift pump at 101000, replaced four shocks and one belt. Replaced track bar bushing with Lukes Link. On second set of tires, got 75000 out of the first set. The front brake pads are like new, the rears are about 3/4 left yet. The Jacobs is definately paying for itself. I pull tractors all over most of the east to mid west. Do have a strange rattle in the front end now like a worn steering component or suspension somewhere. Going to put it on the lift tomorrow and check it out. Can't complain about mine at all so far.

Re:Whens it going to stop?????

I have a 1993 stock 12 valve with 150,000 miles on it and all I have done is change filters. Sorry to hear about your problems, but the engine (injectors and injection pump included) should go at least 500,000 miles. I don't know why people have so much problems with the newer lift pumps. Mine is the stock one that Cummins has used on the side of the block for a long time (not much to go wrong). It looks just like a standard gasoline pump only smaller. I might mention that I do not use ATF in my automatic. I use AW32 hydraulic oil in it. At 150,000 miles, there is nothing in the pan when I change the filter, and it seems to be working GREAT (no transmission problems). Since it is stock, I seem to have as much power as I want pulling my 33 ft fifth wheel (8500 lbs). Sorry to hear of your big list of problems. Maybe you need to switch trucks. I would bet you could get another Dodge and not have the problems you have had.

Re:Whens it going to stop?????

Thanks for all the help but I can't get another truck right now and yes I think it must have been thrown together on a mon or fri,it was built in Missouri to so that don't help much either. My friend had a 1999 the same truck as my 2001 and he has had lot's of transmission problems and oil pan leaks but nothing like what has happen to mine. Most of my problems started when I broke down in La Grande Or. and it was taken to the dealer there and they replaced the computer, lift pump and fuel injection pump and it took a week to fix it so by the time i got out of town it cost me over $3,000.00 and I made it 473 miles and it quit again and nothing has been the same since thenand it had under 100,000 on it then.Does anyone know the web site for Dodge i can never seem to find the right one,I want to tell them how well their mayor of truck city is doing. Thanks again for the reply's.
