Want more heat!!!

Its getting cold outside around here and this year i'm not freeze in my truck anymore. What can be done to improve the heater inside the truck? The truck puts out some heat but nowhere near enough. I was thinking higher temp thermostat and cardboard in front of the radiator. Anyone else have any better ideas?????

If you're getting full airflow through the radiator, it'll definitely take a long time to put out heat. Anything you can do to block airflow would be good. I've never had to replace my thermostat, but I've heard that you want to get it from Cummins, not one of the cheap parts places.

Also, don't overlook 12 volt heater/fan units. A couple of those wired up to a switch would help heat up the cab pretty quickly.

My truck does not put out good heat and when I get it running again I'm going to check the heaters efficiency. Use an infrared thermometer and measure the temperature differential between the inlet and outlet hoses on the heater while its on full blast with full air flow. There should be a temperature drop of at least twenty degrees, more is better. If the temperature is the same, the heater core is partially plugged or the internal separator gasket is leaking, which means replacement. This is based on everything else working properly.

just went thru this..
ensure your up to operating temp 180-190F
good airflow thru the vents.
cardboard in front of the rad will help

then prop the re-circ door open, your heat output will double. been -44C in the wind, for the last couple days, I think last week we made the news, we were the 2nd coldest place on EARTH!!!(somewhere in Siberia took first)

you can put your vent selector on MAX AC with the heat selection on HOT and you will be amazed at the heat output!, BUT edventually the windows will start to fog up, so the solution is to wire open or block open the re-circ door, I've been driving around in -40 weather and almost have to roll the windows down.
my re-circ door is wired 3/4 open with no fogging of the windows.
I'd like to take credit for this but cant, someone else posted it, so I tried it, this after replacing a perfectly good (1yr old ) heater core, only to find out there was nothing wrong with it.
prior to this I was finding with the extreme cold outside that any fan speed over 2 produced cooler to cold air, no I can use hi, but dont need to

On a 12 valve no need for any mods, just run your vent control in the recirculate position.
