Seems like the guys with the autos get a little worse mpgs. Would hate to see the size of that visor if it's killing mileage!

What is the terrain like in your area? I agree that there is something up, running that slow you ought to be doing better. Where is your timing set?

I would think it should be better as well considering your gearing, 2wd and SRW. I get consistenly between 17.5 and 18.5 MPG with mostly highway miles over flat terrain. That MPG is with a dually, 4.10 gearing, 4x4, 5 speed manual, stock timing. Also, keep in mind that I have NO sunvisor though

The timing is stock as is the trans and convertor. I have a couple of friends that put the visors on gas trucks back when they were newer and both said they had a noticable drop in milage. I can see it your basically putting a brick wall in the only arodynamic part of they old truck. My drive to work is close to flat with one decent hill up and back down but not mountains or anything. I run 55-60 mph and turn about 1600 RPM. I would think over 20 at least in the warmer weather should be possible.

Bump the timing and see what that does.

Thats the same MPG i get driving the same distance and driving habbits, i have never got better than 18.5, that was a full tank of 60-65 on flat ground, yes it is a 4x4 auto,3.54,s and as of lately i think my converter is getting very very tired as i have seen even more of a drop of about 2 mpg, 15-16mpg and a rise of 150rpm at crusing speed (60-65)
how many stop and goes? flat ground? keeping tire psi up? i'm hoping when i get on my visor mine don't drop any more. ![]() Dar

Unless it's untaxed, then it's red.

I've learned never to follow what the door jamb says for tire inflation. I always read the max pressure stamped on the sidewalk and stay about 5 psi under that. Makes for a harsh ride but yields as many as 3-5 extra mpg. From experience.
Your OD is working right?

I run 80PSI all around and everything seems to work right. It also finally started snowing here so getting a good real number probably won't happen for a while again. I think it's time to bump the timing and rebuild the trans with a better trans. That or finish the 4x4 and sell this one.

Torque converter. I got 18mpg when I got the truck and the converter was better. Now its slippery as heck and mpgs have dropped 3-4 mpg. 1000rpm slips on hills
