Like bullwagon said they do make smaller housings for the 50, and I believe with the amount of fuel you are talking you should be able spool it...but I think it is still going to be slow, especially if you have a tight convertor.
I have a hx50 similar to vans with either a 16 or 17cm housing and running quite a decent amount of fuel on a 24 valve, and I can spool it quite well, but I do have a 5 speed.
You may even want to consider going right to twins.....because I can still hit 1500 EGT's with the hx50. Especially if you want to add more fuel....believe me, you will! ;D
