Truck in Shop
Not sure if anyone else is having the same problem, but my truck is in the shop for the second time for a rear diff. pinion seal. Truck has only 29,500 miles. This second time started leaking like crazy. If any of you get a chance take alook back there to double check.

Thanks for the heads up. Just spent a couple of days under mine double checking the exhaust when I deleted and was pretty intimate with the rear axle for a while. Mine looks ok.

I stopped at the job site to see a small puddle under the rear diff and pinion in covered. Pinion yoke is tight . It did not leak the rest of the day. It is going to the dealer for repair today. I have to take it to a dealer 40 miles away as my local dealer ( in Monroe Wa.) I will never set foot in again. They could not even look at the truck for 4 days, they did not care that this is the truck that makes me money.

Make sure they are not overfilling also. Fill mark is on the cover, if gear oil is to fill plug then it's over filled.
Proper procedure that needs to be followed.

C-4171 - Driver Handle, Universal
Originally Shipped In Kit Number(s) 9202, 9202A-CAN, 9202CC, 9299, 9299CC, 9299CC, 9300A-CAN.
8896 - Installer, Seal
Originally Shipped In Kit Number(s) 8887, 8887CC.
8979 - Wrench, Pinion Flange
Originally Shipped In Kit Number(s) 8999.
1. Install new pinion seal with Handle C-4171 (1) and Installer 8896 (2).
2. Apply a light coat of teflon sealant to the pinion flange splines.
3. Lightly tap the pinion flange onto the pinion until a few threads are showing.
4. Install flange washer and new pinion nut.
5. Hold pinion flange (2) with Flange Wrench 8979 (1) and tighten pinion nut until pinion end play is taken up.
6. Rotate pinion several times to seat bearings.
7. Measure pinion (1) Torque To Rotate with an inch pound torque wrench (2) and compare it to recorded measurement. Tighten pinion nut in small increments, until pinion Torque To Rotate is 0.40-0.57 N·m (3-5 in. lbs.) greater than recorded measurement.
8. Rotate pinion several times then verify pinion Torque To Rotate again.
9. Install axle shafts.
10. Install propeller shaft with reference marks aligned.
11. Check differential fluid level.

I am picking up the truck today, The service rep printed off the procedure for me and it is exactly what Bigiron posted. They did not even complain that there is a detroit true track in there......

After mine was worked on twice it wasnt the seal but had a bad yoke from the factory causing the leaks. So far so good since the third time it was done.
