I dont winterize anything up here, it sits all winter, starts and runs just fine (good fuel is key).

My diesel sits for months at a time during winter and summer, still fires up when i need it and never had an issue yet.

I'd suggest sticking to another old F150 or F250. That or swapping in a fresh transmission to what you've got. What you're describing needing to haul isn't anything I'd shy away from with a half ton. An old square-body F150 around here can be bought for $1100-$1200. Parts are readily available. Summit, JCWhitney, and LMCTruck can get you just about anything you need, and NAPA can get any mechanical parts. Tires are cheaper. Parts are cheaper. Purchase price. Insurance. And the 302's and 4-speed will do decent mileage, 300 and 5 speed a little better, if you drive it reasonable. And you can buy A LOT of gas for $4,000.

Anymore I do. Gas used to last but now we run mowers, generators etc out of gas like Maybe said for the winter's rest.

I agree that another F150 might be the way to go, or any old gasser for that matter. My gad's truck is identical to mine except color and his has a 5-speed and an open rear. He gets stuck in wet grass on flat ground. That Cummins is heavy!

I have a D350 beater work truck. My kid decided to haul a load of brush to the pile next to the swamp one rainy evening. Coupla hours later with a comealong, we got it on high enough ground to chain it and get it out of the back 40.

It's heavy in the front fer sure.

I love the old Cummins but with what you're saying I would try to look for an early to mid 90s Chevy or GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 w/ a 5 speed manual. Not a whole lot of known problems and parts are cheaper and still easily found and you can find a decent used one for way less than a Cummins in my neck of the woods.

That being said.....I traded my 98 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 5 speed off for my current 91 Cummins 4x4 cause I haul quite a bit...........its whatever you can live with I guess

I have a 90 w250 and it sat for an entire year with out being even as much as looked at, and that thing started in half a crank and purred like a kitten, these trucks will last a long time if you take care of them
