Re:Torq. Lockup

I have the same problem right now with a customers truck(99). I had Dodge reflash the PCM with 18-02-99 and it seemed to fix the problem for a very short time (1 day) and now it's back. I was reading on the TDR that the same problem was cured by replacing his crankshaft position sensor. On the 2001 and up this is part of the VP 44. I am going to replace the crankshaft sensor on this truck soon to see if that fixes the problem. If you have a scan tool you can see if the sensor is putting out the correct signal.

Re:Torq. Lockup

Had the same problem. Tested for hydraulic failure by adding a lockup switch- locked up and held perfectly. so problem was limited to be electrical. Installes a 1 mikrofarad capacitor between the TPS wire and ground on the ECM. This filters the signal. Noise on this signal is interpreted as movement on the go pedal, so the tranny won't lock up. Total costs about 10 US$ (variety of capacitors, lockup switch, cables) and 30 mins including test driving.

HTH

AlpineRAM

AlpineRam, I never thought about a lockup switch being a tester like that, but you have a cool thought there. Never thought about it that way. Pretty neat

Thanks Jack! But... the credits belong to Bill K. He knew that it'S rather difficult for me to get to code scanners, OBD stuff etc. So he worked out something really primitive to decide whether the problem is electrical or hydraulic. Since I learned a bit about the Dodge here and from Bill K, and some other things from the repair manual I think i should share what I know through this site. I must say that this site is great. Thank you Jack for giving us this opportunity, and thanks to all who share valuable informations!

AlpineRAM
