Thunder in the Tundra

Given that my brain was drained, frozen, and asleep, an idea popped into my head on the way back from the ABC Drink 'n' Eat in Edmonton:

An Ice Rally

Time trials on a 1/2 to 1 mile course on a frozen lake. The course would be a road race type, versus straight line or oval, to emphasize handling and driver skill. Each contestant would make two laps, with low time being the winner. Possibly do some kind of round robin affair, so you'd get a couple runs at the course. We would run one truck at a time, to prevent any damage to the trucks, and the course would either be completely cleared by dozer, or groomed with a trail groomer.

Thinking cash prizes (share of the entry fee), a warm HQ with plenty of chow and hot drinks, vendor displays, a few door prizes. 2WD/4WD classes. Rubber tires only, no chains. Closed circuit TV so people in the HQ can see whats going on.

I'm thinking of an area where you could get away to, with plenty of snowmobile trails and ice fishing opporunties in the off-time.

So, how many people would be interested in something like that?

Rod

Re:Thunder in the Tundra

We'll have divers and compressed air tanks to float the rig to the top.

The ice there gets over 4ft thick...correct Rod?

EH

Re:Thunder in the Tundra

The ice on Tobin Lake typically gets to be 6 ft thick, but I will be checking with environmental type dudes to ensure that it would be safe. I would think so, as during ice fishing season, you'll see up to 200 trucks on the ice during a walleye ice tournament.

We'd do it during Jan or Feb, the coldest days of the year. Winterfronts, block heaters and warm booties also necessary ;D

Rod
