I know better than to try that on a stock A518. You're an idiot.

It's been said a stock A518 was only designed to tow 6,000 anyways.

This is how I see it. Its cheaper and easier to swap over to a getrag. Run that trans till its dead. If you don't want to rebuild it then put a nv45/5600 in. There is more work to be done but your half way there since its already a 5-speed truck.

From what I hear people prefer the getrag because of cost and its supposed to be a real diesel trans. A lot of people talk smack about the NV, talking about it being a gasser trans originally. What I can say personally is I've heard a lot of people blowing up NV45/5600s into pieces. And the picky oil thing too, but to me that isn't a serious complaint cause of the long oil life.

There are some very high powered 1st gens running getrags with no problem. With how much we talk about them on the bored I personally think if you rebuild it right, run the right oil and drive it like a truck not a muscle car the getrag should run fine. And iver never even owned one till now haha. So don't listen to me

I thought the G360 was originally a gasser transmission and the 360 meant it was rated for 360 ft lbs of torque.

Is that true or was it just made up?

With the crummy brakes that first gens have, the auto tranny isn't what I'd worry about.
