Tailgate straps

The two wires that held the tailgate up on my truck snapped the other day. I was carrying the fourwheeler in the bed and hit a pothole that was bigger than it looked. Yall can figure out the rest. My question is do yall know anyone who carries a metal bracket instead of the wire? Yall know what I am talking about? The old like 93 chevy's have em. They are a metal bracket that folds up instead of braided wire. The dealer has the wire straps but they are $16/piece. Thanks.

Re:Tailgate straps

Since you live in such a large city, I'd start at the nearest Junkyard (or do they call them recycle centers now?) and work my through them. 16 bucks for aircraft cable? Obviously, DC suppliers learned their trade from the military procurement system.

~Dave

Re:Tailgate straps

Those folding metal brackets are really easily made- just 2 stripes of steel, , drill 3 holes. on one of the bands tap a thread for the center bolt. some washers and you're good to go.
I made them for my Toyo, old ones were rusted away.
AlpineRAM

Re:Tailgate straps

A couple of years ago I had one stolen. After checking with the "*******" I made my own. Very simple and a lot cheaper than what the "*******" wanted.
---
Al

Re:Tailgate straps

I think NAPA or Carquest handles these straps and they are much cheaper. About 10 or 11 dollars each as I recall.

Dan
