I normally use Syn oil.. What will happen if I go back to Dino oil ?? John

Nothing.<br><br>I did it and cut my oil consumption in half. Used to run Mobil1 but now run $.88 per quart el-cheapo oil. The only difference I've seen is that it consumes less of the cheaper oil.

Nothing will happen if you switch back. I've run synthetic since my third oil change 10years ago. My current oil analysis is as good as my first. I'm a firm believer in synthetics with an extended change interval and installation of a new filter at the half way mark it all works great for me. My truck was not cheap and I've never used the cheapest route but the best for the life of my truck. If you switch I would sugest a good dino oil such as Shell Rotella or Delo. Remember all oils are not the same. Specs are a minium requirement and a cheap oil may just meet SAE standards while others excede them.<br><br>As far as Mobil 1 goes it's a great oil but the last I read it did not meet current specs for our trucks. <br><br>Bob

Was wondering about the oil consumption, course I do have almost 190,000 miles (hard contractor miles,driven by flunkies). I just got Mobil 15w50 to try. I want see if it'll last longer than the Amsoil 15w40, because of the w50. Regardless I want to keep synthetic for the cold weather. I think most of the consumption is before it gets to a good operating temp. When the weather warms up I'll be due again and will think about experimenting with either Dino or a blend. Have used Valvoline synth blend for years with success in gassers. My 97 z71 had 200,00 and the motor was strong, everything else went to hell!

I need to clarify a few things about my above post.<br><br>First, the truck in question is a 3.0L Ford Ranger, not a diesel. I would never run $.88 oil in a diesel. It works fine in this little gasser, though.<br><br>Correct, Mobil1 is rated CF which does not the meet Cummins requirement.<br><br>Sorry for any confusion.

Hmmm, the bottle said good for diesel on the back. Guess i'll have to take it back and swap for the Valvoline sooner.

I had a strange experience with my first Ranger, a little 4-banger. The book recommended 10w-40, which I ran for about the first 25k miles. It would always use about a quart every 800-1000 miles. Then the dealer put in 5w-30 once, even though I asked for 10w-40. The oil consumption virtually stopped. It would go 3,000 easily without using a quart, so I ran 5w-30 until I sold it.<br><br>On this Ranger, I was hot-to-trot to run Mobil1 5w-30. But it consumed the Mobil1 at about the same rate, a quart per 1000 miles. Last oil change, I gave up on syn and filled it with Gard 5w-30 (API rated SL) which costs me $10 per case. I've put 3,500 miles on it since then and have used about half a quart.<br><br>For my diesels, I run either Shell Rotella, Shell Rotella, or Havoline Ursa, whatever I can get my hands on.
