I am new here, and before posting this question, I have read every thread for 3rd gens. Okay, I know the subject of exhaust is a frequent one here, but I have heard no references of how loud a straight piped (with a 4" pipe, not 3.5&quot 03' HO six shooter is.

Are we talking stright pipes on Harley at full throttle, or what (because they are obnoxious.) I have an appointment on Monday to cut out my muffler to hear this, with the backup plan of adding a freeflow spiral muffler "to take the edge off if needed."

Will I get an accurate listen with the muffler removed without plumbing the remaining exhaust?

I am still searching for more references reguarding the tone, volume, and livability with such a modification on a new pickup.

I once heard a 2nd generation which sounded awesome as it pulled away from a light- it sounded like a tractor and mack truck. This is the tone I am going for.

A friend of mine, "Monroe diesel" took me for a spin in his 2nd generation with his 4" exhaust from Rip's and a large intake, but the sound and tone of his exhaust was not to my liking. It sounded good, but not the deep throaty mack truck/tractor sound I am pursuing.

From what I have gathered, straight piping will most likely be too extreme for my liking- so what it a striaght through 4" low back pressure muffler is installed in place of the stock muffler?

Is there anyone in Oregon/ Willamette Valley who has a similar exhaust mod I could hear?

I am obviously striving to replace the deep exhaust tone my previous Dakota had. I love the diesel sound, but as we all are- I am searching for bigger, better, BOMB!!!!

Please post your two cents in my search of utilizing this forum to save wasted money and arguments with the wife over unknown outcomes.
