steering gear box replacement? - Dodge Diesel

I have a confirmed leak on my steering gear at the center adjustment bolt. I will try to tighten the bolt to see if that helps. My local dodge dealership wants $717,00 for the part and then another 200 to install it... I found some new replacements on the web for around $200. so needless to say Dodge will not be replacing this for me.

What I would like to know is if there are better replacement parts than OEM?

I guess the guy that owned AGR Steering started the company after he sold AGR. That's why AGR is crap now.

I just replaced my steering box with a rebuild from a local company. The box cost $240.00 CDN, exchange (I got a better deal.)

The rebuilder tightened up the box an made the ratio a little better. I am very happy.

The repacement took me about an hour...two lines, three mounting bolts, one bolt on the steering shaft, and the PITMAN ARM. You will need to get a Pitman puller (rent or borrow).

I can get the info on the shop if anyone wants it.

Don't bother messing with the adjuster bolt, it won't stop it from leaking but it can screw up your steering. You might want to try some of the PS stop leak thats at most parts stores, I think the only thing that seals the adjuster bolt is an o-ring and that stuff might swell it up.

O K here's the results.. I was able to tighten the bolt a smidge and that did it. Just to be on the safe side I topped of with Lucas Stop leak and I haven't had a drop since... So hopefully that will last a while.
