Springs

I have an '89 D250HD, and it rides like, um, a truck.. This thing has 8 spring leaves on each side in the rear, is this stock, or do I have some kind of HD setup? I bought the manual from Gino's, it admits there are leaves back there, doesn't say how many...

I have 8 PLUS overloads on the back. If you are looking to get a better ride, some members have flipped 1 or 2 to get softer rides. Or th more expensive route, air bags.

That is all I know.

Since you are a 2wd you can get away with pulling some leafs out. Pulling them on a 4wd with the tall lift blocks adds some axle wrap.

that is backwards. My truck is extremely stiff unloaded, back tires jump off the road on big bumps it feels like! Put 750 or so pounds on the receiver hitch and it rides nice though. The rear never really squats down any it just lifts the front.

sounds like your springs are sprung. might want to look into having them re-arched. all the first gens i've been in ride like a tank when unloaded.

Thats how mine is...how they should be. It rides rough empty because our trucks are so light on the rear, taht theres nothing to hold them down when ya hit big bumps. Get a little weight back there, and youre just sailing along.

A guy I know about bolted about 500 pounds of tractor weights underneath the bed. Everyone says it rides real nice now. Plus he has all the bed space too.

When I do find some Stick overload springs will I need to make any changes at all or is it just a direct bolt on? Reason I'm asking is because I do not want to change out the existing spring pack that I have now.

Thanks WW

Thats no joke, I weighed my truck a while back. Was around 6500lbs and right around 2K was supported by the rear axle. I didn't write down the exact numbers.
