You can just grind the foot with a dremel tool or die grinder while you have the pump top off to install the spring. Enjoy the smoke!

Before you go crazy with the dremel tool -- I haven't tried this yet, but:
When I grind my AFC foot, I am planning to only grind the top back at a sharp angle, instead of grinding the whole foot off. I think it is possible to make it so that when the boost starts to activate the AFC you will get all possible fueling, but leave the no-boost position basically stock. This will let you control the smoke -- it'll still be there if you crank the smoke screw down, but you should be able to tune it out for economy and smog testing . . . Just a thought.

Good thinking, Alec
sounds like the pump core is coming in handy, eh? It'd be cool to smoke the smoggers and beat them, too.

I use a Dremel with a small grinding wheel. DO NOT attempt to use a cut-off wheel.
I pack the area above the AFC lever with scraps of paper towel to try to reduce the amount of grinding debris that gets up there. Then when I'm done I hold the pump top right side up while pulling out the paper towels and then spray a lot of carb cleaner up in there. The three I've done are still running, so I must have kept most of the grit out of the pump.

I'm with 'Wanna on this one, keep things really clean all the way thru and flush the top really good when your done. You don't want ANY metal particles inside the pump when you put it back together...
