Being a 'blind' test, with author not knowing which was which..... AND with him accurately guessing which samples were CI-4 vs CJ-4, I find that article, and it's conclusions ,to be more reliable than most!

don't bash me, this is a basic observation: i run rottella 15-40, and after reading this, i might switch to jd...because of a better oil, for longer engine life...right? however, i am guilty as well....a bunch of us have the play boxes to add power etc..which correct me if i am wrong, will lead to a shorter engine life in the average vehicle. (kinda seems like a double standard)

OR........ having added fuel/hp is an excellent reason to find the best protection available. No?

But looking at this TDR report, it might be better to use ROtella Syn.... right?

That article is getting kinda old but it was why I switched TO Shell Rotella Synthetic from the Regular Rotella. At the time , the Rotella Syn was still CI-4+. Now that it has switched over to CJ blend since my last large purchase of oil....im changing oils again.

There is nothing wrong with the new Rotella Syn, per se...compared to other CJ blends. I just prefer to stick with a CI-4+ oil. John Deere +50 here I come.

That also means that the JD rating on the TDR oil report is related to the oil prior to Plus-50....
or in other words, the whole "best" group is not available anymore in most states in the US cos they had to change their formula to CJ-4, due to the EPA CJ-4 DPF cr**...

so off-highway equipment oil, such as JD, is the best u can get for a non-DPF cummins....

We need a new oil report!

BTW, AA equipment sells JD oil in San Diego....
