We have different body styles but what I learned at the truck pull Saturday night is this...
My truck weighs 7,086 lbs. In our diesel class you can weigh all the way up to 8000 lbs. So yes, weights are good, and the more weight you have up front, the less the front will bounce. Mine was dribbling up and down like a basketball for a while until the track smoothed out a little. If you can't add plates up front, put some heavy stuff in your floorboard up front and then put the rest of the weight in the bed. Just try to get right around 7900 lbs.
As far as your hitch, I don't know what the legal height is... it varies from sled to sled. Find out and get yours as high as it can go. The higher it is, the more leverage you will have on the sled. Plus the rear will squat down once you get that weight in there, and the weight of the sled.
Air down your tires for a wider footprint. I do not know what to air down to but I know the other guys were doing it. I would guess 15 psi but even that might be too low for a heavy diesel... I'm new to the diesel world. :-)

I reinforced mine
But yes it should work out just fine, I have a pic in my gallery in which the hitch sits 22 inches above the ground with a 1 inch clevis hook... I have yanked out two stumps with it and no issues yet...

Harrison? I live an hour away from there... I live near Mtn Home. We should get together at one of the truck pulls! I work late Tuesday (get off at 11 PM) but there are other pulls coming up. There is one in Yellville on Oct 1st and I may or may not make that one. There are others. The Lady Luck Sled is the one that covers this area and I plan to follow them around.

Question.....you guys that pull with an auto trans, do you lock your converter once you get going for better power transfer (mystery switch or other manual lock-up controller), or is trying to lock with that much weight behind you a no no?

I haven't yet, the problem is the TC won't lock at full throttle, not sure why, I know some that lock as soon as they leave the line at part throttle then shift through the gears, I'm just a little concerned about drive line shock when shifting with the convertor locked. The best would be shift through the gears then be able to lock the convertor. I'm not sure if all makes are this way but my DTT will not lock up at any more than part throttle.
