Signs of VP44 death closing????

Alright i now have a Quad Xzillerator sitting at my house for me to play with when i come home n leave. However i dont want to kill my VP44 while i am home.

What are the signs that your vp44 is starting to get old. Ive got a 100k on truck, walbro pump, and life hasnt always been all that nice to this truck. THoughts?

THanks ROb

My only sign was dead pedal. It started that I'd only have trouble once or twice in a 200 mile trip. Then it got so bad I'd have dead pedal even pulling out of my driveway.

I've heard of dead pedal, but mine failed instantaneously, just quit like that while driving, no warning prior or change in driving.

I could tell for about 3000 miles that something wasnt right, crusing on the interstate truck felt like it was surging, then one day i got the dead peddle and she was gone. I check my codes about every two weeks, if you turn your key (not starting the truck just to the run position) three times your codes ( if any) will appear in your odometer screen

Yeah, i know that trick, i am just debating on weather or not to tap it while i am home or wait till i come bac from being downrange when i have a pocket full of money and can afford to replace the VP.

Truck realy hasnt shown any signs, last couple of tanks when i was home mpg was a little cruddy and it was throwing some codes but i think that was from the XZT+ not taking the tunes from a vista computer.

SO thoguht?
Thanks ROb

What exactly happens when you get the dead pedal, and if there is a code, shouldnt it trip the MIL?

My check engine light never came on.
I was down on mileage about 2-3.
First thing I noticed was no timing advance climbing a hill. ( it was very quiet, like a gas motor), then next hill it had huge advance. Then dead peddle. Drove it for 6,000 miles!!! If I kept it above 60 there was no dead peddle!!!
Finally it was so unpredictable, I bought a Blue Chip, and it has been great.
It did show code 0216 for a long time.

I bought my truck used right after the original owner had the VP 44 replaced. I installed a low fuel pressure warning light and new transfer pump. 70,000 miles later the VP died with no warning other than a rough idle after pulling out of my garage. No warning at all. Just dead.

Vented my frustrations earlier on a different thread. I am going to run 2 cycle oil in it after I get it back this week. It's the only thing left to try. If it fails again...it's gone.

Mine acted up for almost 100K miles. It started on cold starts, lots of blue smoke. It was as quiet as a gas engine for about a mile. It would only run 35 until it got warm. Then it started a little surge. This went on for years and a lot of miles. It died in the yard when I changed the fuel filter. Nothing I did would get it started. I had already ordered a new VP44 when it did fail. Could not have been in a better place. Always worried about failure on long trips but it didn't happen. The new pump has over 200K on it with no problems at all.
