pinion spacing

i need help on what the pinion spacing is on my truck when i put 4:56 gears in im in the middle of the project and dont have anout tim to do the trial and error its a 9.25 rear and d44 front please help

By 9.25 are you talking about a dana 60?

If so, do a search or two and you will find more Dana 60 and 44 info than you can read.

I think "pinion depth" and/or "case dementions" would be a good terms to use in your search. Also stry the big diff supply houses, thier sites are full of info.

Good luck with your project, I just did a dana 60 for my jeep and it was a big job (my first time inside a diff)

This is from the 2001 Dodge Factory Service Manual:


9.25:
Differential Case Flange Runout 0.076 mm (0.003 in.)
Differential Case Clearance 0.12 mm (0.005 in.)
Ring Gear Backlash 0.13-0.20 mm (0.005-0.008 in.)
Ring Gear Runout 0.12 mm (0.005 in.)
Pinion Bearing Preload - Original Bearings 1-2 N·m (10-20 in. lbs.)
Pinion Bearing Preload - New Bearings 1.7-4 N·m (15-35 in. lbs.)


D44 (known as the 218fbi in the FSM):
Ring Gear Backlash 0.12-0.20 mm (0.005-0.008 in.)
Pinion Gear Standard Depth 109.5 mm (4.312 in.)
Pinion Bearing Preload - Original Bearing 1-2 N·m (10-20 in. lbs.)
Pinion Bearing Preload - New Bearing 2-4 N·m (15-35 in. lbs.)
