manual trans
I know there are /were 2 different manuals made .
Don`t know model #`s but reverse on one is upper right and the other is lower left .
Is one better than the other?
Thanks,

The NV5600 is cast iron and the G56 is aluminum. Reverse on the 5600 is to the right and up....to the left and down on the 56. I prefer the stoutness of the 5600 but parts are a bit hard to come by because its no longer produced.

The NV runs in MTL where the G runs in ATF. Stock, the G has a dual mass flywheel where the NV came with a conventional flywheel. Early G's had a much lower high gear than the NV.
I've had one of each, and neither have caused problems.

The NV is super strong and tough. Failures are rare. They are large and very heavy. They shift well, just not as fast as the G. I would think that the very low failure rate contributes to the availability of spare parts.

I think their having been discontinued is what makes parts difficult to find and high priced.
Personally, if I were shopping for a stick truck, I'd consider its overall condition and price first, and wouldn't necessarily turn down either transmission.
If you were wanting to do some sort of competition, high power build, then maybe look specifically for an NV?
