92 W250 body/interior replacement with 89 150 parts?

Hello everyone,

I have recently picked up a 1992 Dodge Ram W250 LE Reg. Cab Long Box manual. The truck is in great running condition, but the forestry technicians who drove it before I bought it destroyed basically every panel on the truck and most of the interior. I ended up gutting the entire interior.

Ive been looking for a while now and just found an 89 Dodge ram 318 reg.cab long box auto in great shape.

Theoretically, shouldn't the body panels, doors, truck box, hood, bench seat, dash etc fit nicely into my 92?

Just want to make sure Ill be able to use it before I purchase it.

Thanks,

D

The only difference between the trucks bodywise may be the cab floors. The reg cab 2wd automatics have a very small trans tunnel. All manuals, 4wds and late 1st gens w/OD autos have a much larger tunnel. The radiator support is also different.

The only issue I see is the 92 is Intercooled, the 89 wasn't. Should be a direct bolt on so long as you don't try and use the 89 Grille and headlights.........That will need to be 91.5 and up if you need to replace yours.

I have seen the 89 grill trimmed to fit the inter cooler. some look pretty good others awful. The best had screens in the openings.

This is the how I picked it up.... one day it will be much nicer to look at.

WHOA, that's no 1992............. Has to be 1991 or older production.

Can anyone say for sure the production date for the Intercooled change over?

Either that or they blew the original engine and threw in a non-intercooled replacement.

Does it have a chrome grille or a painted plastic one?

Yep, but they also moved the headlight location when they Intercooled them, so the thing turns into a bunch of work.....

Ya its not intercooled and is original engine. Pretty sure the inside door says 1990.5. Not sure why I said 1992.

Anyway, that's my beauty. Ill be looking for a new grill from another lifeless donor at some point. The grill is chrome, and says dodge across the chrome instead of the older style where it says dodge on the hood.

Ok, she's a 91 early production truck then.

Is your grille shot? The originals with the dodge embossed in are hard to find..... I haven't seen an aftermarket one with lettering yet.

It is missing pieces around the passenger headlight unfortunately. Hopefully I can pull one from a scrapyard at some point in time!

LOL, You find a good one in the Yard, grab it every single time, they are darned near worth their weight in gold.

Too bad none of the aftermarket ones laid the money to put the Dodge on them.

You will never see an aftermarket grille with the lettering on it. I done some research on why they dont put the dodge on them and its because its a trademark issue. They cannot justify the costs Chrysler would charge them for the rights to put dodge on them. I have taken an aftermarket grill to a sign shop and had them put raised decals on it. They look really good and anybody more than 5 feet away from it would not notice it was not an original

The letters on my messed up needs replacing grill seem to be bolted or tabbed on. I wonder If I could move them to an afterfake grill.

Yes you could. They are tabbed...the pins that go through from the letters to the back of the grille are just melted. Use a sharp knife tip to scrape away the melted portion holding them in place and they should come off.

Then just cut off the pins from the back of the letters, use some 3M 2 sided trim adhesive tape, and secure them to your "afterfake" grille.
