It is presently on the north side of 50. One can see the flames standing at the shell station off of Pony Express Trail and Sly Park Rd.
HWY 50 is currently closed in both directions due to smoke and the nearness of the fire.
I am on the other side of the lake about 6-7 miles from the fire.

This morning they had mandatory evacuations of Swansboro and Mosquito areas which means the fire is basically contained to the East/West running canyon. Also all of the campgrounds in the Ice House and Union Valley area is evacuated. If those are the two extremes, then the fire seemingly stretches for about 25-30 miles.

Wow.
I can understand UV and Silver Creek, but Icehouse too? It must be really close or coming up the north side of the lake since you can use Wright's to get to 50.
It'd be amazing to be able to see it from the Big Hill Lookout station.
Sucks that that area was finally starting to recover from the Cleveland fire.
So you're over near ME trail?
Hopefully we get more rain than expected tonight/tomorrow.

Yes, I'm about one mile south of the ME trail. Fortunately for me, I can throw a rock and hit the USFS fire station there.
I was thinking about the cleveland fire too. If it goes much further East, whitehall and those poor cabins on the river will once again get it. I don't know how many more times those poor folks can rebuild!

That whole area is dangerous.
Cleveland Fire
The New Years Day flood
I'm surprised we've gone this long with out something tragic.
P.S. I had to use ME to get home from Reno after that Flood/Washout on 50, we lived on the Elk Grove/Sac border at the time. 80 was closed due to snow, 50 was closed near Strawberry I think, so we had to take 88 and If I recall 16 was also flooded so we couldn't take 88/49/16. It took us 9hrs from Reno to home.

Thanks Lary...
Of course this fire is now national news. It is located in some really rugged areas. Fortunately that same geography is what is saving the houses and whatnot.
The fire has spread dramatically covering over 115 square miles (hey, that's 10% of Rhode Island!) this morning. But it is moving in a direction opposite my house.
