Aux Trans Cooler Install questions
Well, I'm finally getting around to installing this B&M cooler that's been on
the bench for a couple of years. My son acquired it and promptly scavenged
the thermo switch for the Class 8 truck he was involved with. After much
research and two wrong sized switches I finally decided to just plug the hole
and use a manual switch to drive the fan when needed. The thread size is
M18-1.5 and, as it turns out, a oil drain plug for a Toyota works, so this
brings me to a couple of questions: What's the best place to splice the cooling
lines and where is the best location for the sensor for the ATF temp?
Presently I have the stock pan.

where are you mounting it? this would determine where I would add it in the cooler line circuit. you say it has a fan so I presume it will be mounted under the truck. Next question is do you still have the Factory hard lines for cooler lines or have you replaced them w heavy duty rubber trans cooler hoses?

Looks like the best place to mount the cooler will be under the bed, and
my cooler lines are the stock hard lines. I've never heard of using heavy
hose except when adding another cooler. I looked at Push Loc hose for my
installation, but it's only rated to 225 deg/F, so I need to source something
else. What brand hose are you suggesting?
I do plan on keeping the coolant/ATF heat exchanger as I will be at elevation
some of the winter months.

yes i kept my heat exchanger for trans, even bought another to put in my fuel system for the colder winter months to warm the fuel but havent gotten around to that yet. I had to replace my trans lines as mine were in bad shape and i bypassed my fluid temp sender with a resistor. So i have all rubber cooler lines, i got mine from my parts guy at O'Reilys at the time, they are trans cooler specific hoses made for coolers, ive never checked what temp theyre good to but i havent had the first issue from them yet either. you still have the hard lines so youll have to make the decision to cut and splice or replace and replumb, up to you. I would install the B&M as the last cooler in the circuit so you would need to disconnect the rear cooler line on the trans run it to your new cooler then from the cooler back to the rear port on the trans. front port is cooler feed and rear port is cooler return
