Hitting 450+ HP on First Gen
I'm about to be receiving a project truck that is a 92 first gen from my future father in law. I don't know much about the truck as far as standard, auto, ect.
I was wanting to know where I need to start because I want to make this a 450-500 hp rig quick.
I have a good bit of experience of hp chasing from my 98.5 24 valve (RIP...53 block)
I really want this to be more of a daily driver, possible get a few sled pulls under my belt again.

an S400, or a nice set of twins.
some 6-16 injectors
a good clutch on a manual trans
an A1000 fuel lift pump with regulator
and lots of NOS.
that is the cheap way..... to make a 450-500 hp reliable DD VE pump on fuel alone, it will cost 10-15k
4 or 5 guys have made a good solid 400 and still drive it reliably, but that next 100 hp is in the realm of black magic.
P-pump it and it will be cheaper, but you will loose (ALL) the cool factor.

Yeh but, David your truck is the poster child for a freak of nature, that thing is built prof, if you ever had a hankerin to go deep in the bowels of your engine for a refurbish I would have to fog the crap out of it just to see 700ish hp.....it's in there, you just need to trick it into coming out.
I don't know of any VE pumped 500hp trucks that I would take off cross country in, yours is the closest to 500 that I would consider reliable.

Injectors from DAP, Industrial Injection phatshaft 62 and II custom pump (which I wouldn't recommend). Those were supplied by DAP too.
I think if I dropped from the heavy 37s to a lighter 33 or 35 inch tire I would see numbers closer to 450 but that's just a guess. Those load range D 37s are HEAVY!

and what do you mean by a II custom pump?

I've been under the hood of that truck and I'll set the record straight. There's nothing freakish, accidental or voodooed about it. Everything has a purpose and the system is built for supreme efficiency. The labor and attention to detail is absolutely astonishing. No 1/1000th of a second is neglected. That faded green W250 is the reason I now shake my head every time I see some guy on a forum claim that 400hp is the power ceiling for a 12mm VE pumped truck unless you add NOS or black magic to the mix.

yes sir, I know what you speak of, you did see this part right.
Dave has about half this amount in his trans alone.
and yes that first part you said is pretty much what I was getting at.

I lost all faith in them after they refused to warranty the pump they turned up because it was turned up and the first pump diff not have the "custom ground" fuel pin as advertised and while arguing with them they admitted they ran out of those pins for a while and had just used stock Bosch pins that were rotated.

Should be on there, had that a few years now. The pump started out as one of Industrials performance calibrated pumps which cratered in less then a year. I sent it back to them they claimed the fuel screw was turned in to far and refused to warranty it. So I had some spare parts and cam plates laying around. Sent those to them to rebuild the pump. They tweaked and tuned it with the new cam plate, gov spring and a Denny T stg 2 and whatever else it is they do or don't do.

The issue was with Industrial Injection, not Diesel Auto Power. That's why I say I wouldn't recommend them, as in II. I hear Scheid builds good ve pumps and I wanted to try them 2nd time around but II finally agreed to take some fault and I just supplied a lot of the new hard parts to fix it then they tweeked it up.
