Why I LOVE my 1st gen!

Ok, many of you know how dependable and well built the 1st gen 5.9 is. I know there are a few who know me personally and know that I have two 1st gens and a built 05 6spd. I grew up around 1st gens since my dad and brother both bought new ones in 92 and 93. Now there are eight between the three of us. I work in food DC with almost 100 drivers who all have their own opinions. Many of which are blue/Navistar fans. When I tell them about hauling weight they try to chime in with the smallest of loads. One tried to brag about bringing in his 2500lb trailer with a s10 on it. I simply smile and say my 24k Eager Beaver weighs more than that empty. I get to haul away the old forklifts and racking from work. So I simply love to park my truck I the middle of the yard with a 10k pound Crown RR laying on it. I simply ask these guys with these newer Navistar and Duramax's when they're trucks are 22yrs old would they hook to 8,400lb empty trailer with a 10k pound forklift on it??? I get blank stair's. Well yesterday was no exception. Dad bought a 14,500lb 1980 C70 with an Allison and a Detroit diesel in it. Do to a bad tranny leak dad didn't want to drive it the 50miles home. I had no problem towing it for him. And no I didn't bother breaking out my 05. I told my dad if the trailers jack didn't drag pavement we would be ok. Well I had to put the ramps up and drive the truck onto the ramps to have more than 3" of clearance on the jack but she made the trip home with no issues what so ever. MAN I LOVE MY MULE!!!!!!!!!
Just thought I would share. Cummins, building it right since 1919!!!!!!

I honestly don't mean to say that towing over weight is legal. I do fear every time that Suzy homemaker not paying attention pulls right out in front of me. I normally drive about 45-50mph on secondary roads. I never worry about the DOT or going up mountains. I worry about coming down and stopping. My dad broke the frame on one of his trucks last fall towing my trailer with wood pellets on it. I always like to place the weight over the axles of the trailer. Hence the reason I am looking for a clean rust free frame for a 92/93 CC 4x4.

I only mean to say that having the drivers (CDL) constantly brag about their Navistar trucks and how many miles they get and so forth. I love to point out that what they consider towing heavy is like hauling groceries to me

If you had a goose neck rather than a bumper pull trailer that probable would not have happened, just my .2c worth. My 5th wheel has a 2500lb hitch weight, getting going is no problem at all, your right on when you say the stopping is the one you have to pay attention to. cheers

I agree and almost bought a goose. My truck has a gooseneck plate already welded in. The only problem is to haul serious weight I would be stuck. We now have two 2.5ton trucks that can haul just about anything we need too. Dad has two 580ck's and a Case Teratrac dozer. A goose wouldn't help.

Alec, yeah that where the damage occurred. Its actually worse than the pics show. The sad thing is we had just put a totally rust/dent free bed on it two yrs ago. When the frame buckled the trailers jack came all the way to the ground. Basically that's the only thing that stopped it. The bed buckled right along with it. The bed rails folded inward and on the inside the inner sides crinckled like paper. My dad felt so bad for telling them to put 8ton of pellets on it. I wanted to tell him he knew better but when a man is almost 70 he knew it was a terrible decision. The main issue is the frames poor condition. That particular trucks frame was in poor condition to start with. I rebodyed it two years ago with a rust free sheet metal.

If anyone happens to have a rust free 1992/93 club cab frame 4x4 preferred but will take a 2wd too and is within 100miles or so of zip 25404. Please shoot me an email. I will completely disassemble this rig and transfer it all to the new frame. I will make a nice thread read

That is right were my frame bent. Except I wasn't overloaded. It was nearly 300 miles of bad road with a 24' travel trailer.

Nice Cuda!!!

LOL, no its still in SB form but I will be there. I don't know whether I will take my 'Cuda or RC. Is your Cummins RC almost done? We should both bring our Cummins RC's. I will be bringing my newest and most important thing. My son, (Major) so he can experience an all Mopar day. He's almost 4months old now Also if I do not locate a frame soon I will probably end up using the frame from the truck I purchased from you. I wanted to build a Cummins/cc/5spd/4x4/8ft stepside out of that.

I hope to make it. My RC is a driver but needs serious body work. I am swamped with work now so it is on the back burner. Congrats on the next generation of 1 gen owners to your family. I'll keep my eyes open for a frame for you.
