More info on the programmers

A sales rep at a truck equipment store was telling me today that the programmers sold these days are hindered in such a way that they wont even allow the vehicle to run if you do the deletes. Said they started doing this a couple years ago and it's the emission gurus way to control the sale and ability of the programmers. I like the Edge Juice CS and may considered getting one. Is there any truth to this or is the guy misinformed?

He is misinformed. There are only certain tuners currently on the market that are coded to disable the emmision equipment, MADDS Smarty, H&S and EFI Live. These tuners will allow you to run code free with lots of extra power on a deleted truck.
There are tons of threads on this and other forums providing great material about the use and success of these products.

Thanks for the info. I'm not real good with computers as far as navagating. Where would I go to find out if the Edge products support the delates and how do I get to this info? This will be progressive for me. I'll probably start with a programmer and eventually consider the delates later. I just want to know what I'm limited to select from. I like the little pod and screen with the Edge, but I dont want to buy it and find out later it wont support the deletes.

No, I thought I'd get the info from those that may have first hand knowledge of what works and what doesnt, not just another outfit trying to sell their product. I know this subject has probably been beat to the ground and it's really boring for alot of folks, but I really dont have alot of experience with these upgrades.

Last I knew Edge does not have a tuner capable of running code free with DPF and EGR deleted (or disabled), for that you will need one of the race (or off road) tuners I previously listed.
The H&S BlackMax and smaller cousin MiniMax are both race tuners with monitor screens that display various engine performance levels. The H&S XRT has the same tunes but without the monitor head. Going that route you will need additional analog guages or a compatible engine monitor that plugs into the truck's OBDII port. These are good box tuners that you don't have to have a lot of computer savy to use. One note, if you have an auto tranny, you will need to spend a few extra buck for the transmission tunning software.
The MADS Smarty S67ME and Smarty JR S67ME are also good box tuners that will run code free DPF/EGR deleted. The ME tunes are defined as 'Middle East' tunes where the BlueTec system is not required. These tuners do not have a monitor head per se so, again, you will need to use external guages or get a monitoring device like the EDGE Insight.
Last I knew EFI Live was still working on certain Dodge/Cummins tunes but the technology sounded very promising for custom tunes that exactly fit your truck and what is (or is not) still on it; however, it may be a bit more heady than what you'd want to mess with if you have any computer phobias.

Hope this helps you some. For more info and guidence......and ordering??? You can call Lary on the DTR Forum number. Another good resource is James at Rollin Smoke Diesel, either one will steer you straight.
