Building my own air intake

2005 cummins 2500, 4" exhaust, secondary fuel filter, auto trans, no extras its a company truck that has never seen an easy day in its life but looks almost brand new. |

My filter will probably out in the open unles I can figure out a box for it, and are there any mpg gains to having aftermarket filter set up over the stock flat panel

A lot depends on your right foot, but yes the aftermarket filters will yield a little better economy due to the higher flow and less restriction.

Is it just me or is the exhaust stud loose on your #4 cyl?

There is a template on here somewhere that I used to make a heatshield for my BHAF. It works pretty good but you should make a cardboard one to really make it fit better.
One filter is probably enough, you can only suck so much air thru a 4 inch inlet.

Just what I did.......removed the factory stuff, added the K/N to the bellow, then used cardboard to make a template of a heat shield which I eventually fabricated out of 316L.

could you run a bhaf in a set up like that? and is that just the k&n filter from their cold air kit?
