Any Low-Carb Eaters Here?

I was just wondering if anyone here was doing the "low carb" lifestyle change? I call it that because it has changed a lot with the way I eat/live. I have been successful so far at dropping 45 LBS and have been doing it for 3 months. I was wondering if there was any long term low carb eaters on here?

I have been looking at erythritol now as a sweetener. I have been able to curb my sweet tooth with other approaches but I would like to try something else besides Splenda.

I'm a type II also. Diabetic Forecast gives us a lot of useful information. Anybody who abides by the diabetic food guidelines will lose weight. I was diagnosed in 2000 and weighed 258#. Within 6 months I had gotten down to 195#(I'm 6'4"). I was miserable and hungry all the time. I have since compromised and now weigh 218#,but must take metformin. Sorry for the highjacking.

I did the low carb thing about 5 years ago and lost 50# in less than 3 months. I kept the weight off for about 4 years (tossed the low carb thing) and now I've gained 20 back. Time to go at it again. It's hard to stay on a strict low carb diet for me. My key thing after I lost the weight was not drinking anything that was sweetened with sugar. It worked well for me untill I took a desk job then the weight is coming back.
I use splenda, I've tried all kinds of sweetners and didn't like any of them.

I wish I was type 2. I'm a type 1(insulin dependant) thats 145lbs 5'8" And I can't gain wieght to save my life. I take an average of 8 shots a day. So watching carbs is huge for me to stay alive!

I never really did the low carb diet thing. I did however, about 3 years ago, completely changed the way I ate. What got me started on it was reading a book called "Don't Eat This Book : Fast Food and the Supersizing of America" by Morgan Spurlock. He's the guy that made the Super Size Me movie. It's a great book.

When I enlisted in the Coast Guard I was in OK shape and skinny. I left boot camp at a very lean 146 lbs. 6 months later, due to my lack of self control, abundance of food, and overeating, I ballooned up to around 188 lbs (40 lbs in 6 months ) I stayed that way for about 5 years. At that point I had found that book and read it. Started changing my lifestyle at that point. Mandatory PT at my new unit helped too.

Within a year I had dropped 35 lbs, where I currently maintain my weight in the lower 160's. I am glad that I changed. I generally feel a lot better, and have a decent amount of energy. +

Here's a few things I did and still am doing :

Zero fast food. (that stuff is terrible for you. Loaded in fats, sodium, carbs, calories and chemical additives)
I don't drink soda (no nutritional value and loaded in sugar)
Read nutrition labels.
Eat a better, well balanced diet.
Exercise.

Congrats matego on the weight loss, and to everyone else as well.

For me the low carb diet fits me great. I am content with just eating meats and cheese. I can usually go a day with only eating 5 grams. I have a rotisserie and eat TONS of chicken. I feel great and do not lack energy like many have said I would. About the only thing that killed me this summer was the pear tree was loaded and I had to give them all away.

I am curious about my cholesterol levels though. I have read when your body becomes efficient at processing the fat it will clean the bad cholesterol out of your system even though there is an elevated consumption of it.

Don't laugh but I ate lots of subway (ever since pizzas came out) and between that and laboring away I lost over 30 lbs so far. I'm now to the point I need to tone up alot.

Fat Burners by Jay Robb. Lost 50 lbs in about 3 months. I had gone up from 180lbs to 240 lbs due being unable to exercise after my stroke. Work out every other day now.

Be careful with the carbs......knew a guy that recently died from a potassium deficiency. Don't have all the particulars, but he had been about 2 years on the Atkins type diet. Can't say Atkins for sure, but friends say he wouldn't touch carbs. Again.....I am not a doctor, but close friends of the family told me the info. He was in great shape ( or so they thought ) and had been running about 3 miles a day.....collapsed on a front porch taking a break from his running, and the doctors said he went into a coma from lack of oxygen to the brain. I guess, part of the side effects of the potassium deficiency? Lived a couple more weeks in basically a vegatative state before passing.

Good thing about Fat Burners is you eat protein and good carbs. Gives you a more balanced diet.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been taking all kinds of vitamins and minerals. Its true there are certain deficiencies with a protein/fat diet but I would say the average Joe that eats the Swanson salisbury steaks and a bag of potato chips is lacking something too. I was eating real unhealthy for 10 years and I believe have found the right path to maintain a correct weight for my lifestyle.

So, can you tell me what type of meals you eat during a week consumption for this? I have plateaued out and am not able to loose any more (so it seems). What would be a typical meal during the day to loose this weight?
