Vegetable oil instead of 2 stroke oil

Since this seems to be the hot topic lately. How about adding vegi oil instead of 2 stroke oil for a fuel additive.
The additive study shows that biodiesel was the best lubricant by far.

At the rate of 2%, a 5 gallon jug of soy, or peanut oil would cost a bit more to add than the 2 stroke oil but would be a much better lubricant.

Not exactly biodiesel. But at 2% the oil would not affect the cold weather characteristics of the diesel fuel by very much.

Any thoughts??

1) 2% REG SoyPower biodiesel
HFRR 221, 415 micron improvement.
50:1 ratio of baseline fuel to 100% biodiesel
66.56 oz. of 100% biodiesel per 26 gallons of diesel fuel
Price: market value

7)Super Tech Outboard 2-cycle TC-W3 engine oil
Unconventional (Not ULSD compliant, may damage 2007 or newer systems)
HFRR 474, 162 micron improvement
200:1 ratio
16.64 oz/tank
$1.09/tank

I have been thinking about trying that also. I wonder how much you would need just for the lube effect?

Seems that what you're talking about is running straight veg oil, not biod. The viscosity of the veg oil is much greater than that of the biod and depending on the temps in your region the veg oil will clump up/solidify and potentially clog your fuel system, that is unless you have altered your ctd to run on veg oil, which some have done. The 12v are more tollerant than the 24v and especially the HPCR when running veg oil. Just my $.02.

Thanks High Bid. But at 2% it does not seem to make a difference. Trying it in a jug and it mixes completely with the diesel. Does not settle out and does not look any different than a jug of straight diesel after being in the freezer.

Doesn't veg oil have a pretty high flash point? I'm still of the opinion that 2-stroke oil is better since it is designed to burn and lubricate, not just one or the other.

I can't say for sure without looking it up but I don't think it would be very high since you don't have to be placarded to haul it. At least I don't see the rigs delivering to Costco with placards and they have it in 5 gallon buckets.

Veggie oil burns fine. I have some contact with a veggie system dealer in this area and they made a trip back east and only spent 50 bucks on diesel round trip. You have to start on diesel and switch back before you shut it off.

I have over 100K miles on a Frybrid WVO system and has run very weel the past 2 years. I was spending $1000/mo on fuel before the conversion, now less than $100/mo becuase its winter. BUt it has 2 fuel systems and I wouldn't reccomend any veggie oil in your diesel system. If it settles in your filter, it will wax it up and could plug. Go with a bioD blend if you're looking for better lubrication properties.

High flash point means it would take a high temperature for it to ignite, so it would be more stable than something with a lower flash point.
