Question Bhaf?????k&n??????

BHAF. (big honkin air filter) Is this the same filter as the factory. Or, is it larger, the factory unit is rather large. Where do you guys get your filters from, and what is the Part number. I am also wondering about cutting into the factory air box, what does this buy you, and how would you do it, if at all. Is the factory air pipe any good as far as performance goes? (i.e. all the loss you get from the accordian like construction)If smooth pipe is better where do I get the components, (like clamps, couplings chrome pipe or any thin else I might need?) does it matter where you put the filter in the engine compartment. Is any body using a cold or ram-air style of ducting from the out side to feed the filter. Are K&N filters bad I picked mine up before I read on DTR that they could be bad. Right now any thing is better than a dark looking FRAM from like 4 years ago right. I also noticed that the comprsser fins have a slight serrated look on the leading edge, I know from looking at impeller style water pumps (i.e. 25hp Berkley irrigation pumps from my farm days), pumping sandy water has the same effect only worse. Is this due to bad filtration and the dust particles wearing it away. How bad is to bad, its just noticable, and the turbo seems to work just fine( I do know that as the fins wear down their efficeincy is reduced). I am also a stickler for maintnence so keepin a K&N clean won't be a problem. I sure hope I am not asking a bunch of dumb questions I love this forum and hearing all of your answers. I want to learn everything I can!! CTD forever!!

I'm sitting here wondering the same thing too! I did read all the "Sticky's" concerning air intake & filter setups. I like the idea of an open-air filter and it's ability to amplify the turbo whine. I'm a turbo sound kinda guy The idea of increasing the turbo sound, while providing a little bit better air flow is what appeals to me.

The BHAF is bigger than the whole stock airbox.

If I were to do it again, I would buy a HUGE Donaldson/Amsoil "dryflow" filter. They're called something like that. Filter down to like 2 microns and you just blow them out with air and reuse them for life. The flow of a K&N style with the cleanliness of a paper element. No oil.

You can use one of the AMSOIL filters. The eaau4510 is the biggest and has a 4 1/2" flange, which makes it easy to connect to the turbo air pipe. I pay fifty-six for one as a preferred customer. I am not sure what CFM this filter flows? A cold air shield would be good too.
